The virtual tour is created in the execution of the Project № BGLD-1.007-0040 “Support for securing of employment, social and professional integration of people with disabilities in the municipality of Ivanovo” under the Program “Local development, reducing of poverty and better inclusion of vulnerable groups” financed by the finance mechanism of the European economic area 2014-2021. The entire value of the project is 199 439,92 euros with a duration of 14 months starting from the date of 28.02.2023.
The project includes investments in innovative approaches for development of the local employment through stimulation and facilitation of the approach for the employment of people with disabilities and a right to work and realization of measures towards the development of tourism in the municipality. Following trainings are envisioned for the persons after which for a part of them there will be a secured opportunity for employment in a real working environment for 12 months on a full time work schedule. The employed staff will work as security and will carry out access control for the Ivanovo rock churches.
As a part of the world cultural heritage of UNESCO, the Ivanovo rock churches are an attractive center and a main tourist attraction in the territory of the municipality. The project envisions the development of a parking lot which will reduce the uncontrolled entry of automobiles within the limits of the rock church “Saint Archangel Michael” avoiding the danger of damaging the murals. For the tourists that want to have a tour of the premises in an unconventional way and for those with movement difficulties, the project includes the use of electrical scooters and trikes.
The monastery encompasses six complexes of premises, cut into the rocks of the valley of the Ruse Lom river. It was founded during the first half of the twelfth century by the monk Joachim. He and his three pupils were visited by the Bulgarian King Ivan Asen the second (1218-1241) who gave them means and resources for the development of the rock abode. With the return of the Bulgarian orthodox church in the year of 1235, Joachim was chosen to be the first patriarch of Tarnovo.
The connections of the Bulgarian royal family with the rock abode in the settlement of Ivanovo show their continued development. The portraits of the founders in the churches of “Saint Archangel Michael”, “Saint Theodore of Tyrone”, “Saint Theodore Stratelates” and “The Holy Virgin Mary” depict the images of the Bulgarian rulers. With the destruction of the Bulgarian country at the end of the fourteenth century, the rock monastery began to crumble. The high artistic value of the preserved paintings puts the Ivanovo rock churches in the objects of the world heritage of UNESCO.

The borders between the compartments are destroyed, but they could be told apart. The biggest one is the east one with the size of 9 x 5.30 x 2.60 meters. A part of its front side is preserved, which is cut into the rock massif. The dented into the ground sockets suggest that in front of the premise existed a wooden construct, which probably led to the hard to reach and now destroyed base floor. On the east side of the premise there is an entrance, which was possibly the connecting point to the other complexes. To the east the premise borders with another one that is across it with the measurements of 6 x 3 meters. To the west of that premise are two compartments that are situated together.

The virtual tour is created in the execution of the Project № BGLD-1.007-0040 “Support for securing of employment, social and professional integration of people with disabilities in the municipality of Ivanovo” under the Program “Local development, reducing of poverty and better inclusion of vulnerable groups” financed by the finance mechanism of the European economic area 2014-2021. The entire value of the project is 199 439,92 euros with a duration of 14 months starting from the date of 28.02.2023.
The project includes investments in innovative approaches for development of the local employment through stimulation and facilitation of the approach for the employment of people with disabilities and a right to work and realization of measures towards the development of tourism in the municipality. Following trainings are envisioned for the persons after which for a part of them there will be a secured opportunity for employment in a real working environment for 12 months on a full time work schedule. The employed staff will work as security and will carry out access control for the Ivanovo rock churches.
As a part of the world cultural heritage of UNESCO, the Ivanovo rock churches are an attractive center and a main tourist attraction in the territory of the municipality. The project envisions the development of a parking lot which will reduce the uncontrolled entry of automobiles within the limits of the rock church “Saint Archangel Michael” avoiding the danger of damaging the murals. For the tourists that want to have a tour of the premises in an unconventional way and for those with movement difficulties, the project includes the use of electrical scooters and trikes.
